Robertson Machine Company was established in 1999 by owner Mike Robertson. Mike began his career in machining in 1974 working for his Father-in-Law Virgil Waltz at Waltz & Sons Machine Shop in Greenwood, Indiana. Mike worked as a machinist at Waltz & Sons for his entire tenure of employment for Virgil. In 1991 Mike transitioned to not only working as a machinist in the shop but also assisting Virgil in the day-to-day operations. When Virgil retired in 1998, Mike bought the business and then re-branded the shop as Robertson Machine Company in 1999.

As Robertson Machine, using knowledge gained from Virgil, his own ingenuity, and hard work, Mike worked on transitioning the shop from a manual machine shop to a full CNC facility. In his 21 years of ownership, Mike has been able to turn his vision into reality.

In 2020, having outgrown the building where everything originally started, the business moved to a larger, newer facility in Whiteland, Indiana, just a few miles south of the original location. Today, Robertson Machine is still owned and operated by Mike with the assistance of his Son-in-Law, Jon Brown.

Jon began his career at Robertson Machine in 2008. After serving time as an apprentice and learning the skill of machining, he operated as a machinist until 2019. At that time Jon moved into the role of Operations Manager, which is his current role today.

We currently employ 7 machinists. 5 operate lathes and the other 2 operate a mill. Scott Foster, our lead machinist has over 30 years of experience with the company dating back to working at Waltz & Sons and then continuing his employment with Robertson Machine since its inception in 1999. The other 6 machinists have over 110 years of experience in the machining industry.
